'My lovely loo'We moved to our property in December 2018 during a drought and quickly realised that we would need a compost toilet. Then the bushfires hit, floods came and Covid became part of everyday life. Adrian works with horses and people. Unlike other industries in these uncertain times, people seeking help working with horses has grown. We’ve had an increase in visitors to our property and it became a high priority to set up a compost toilet.
"Grant was very helpful from the-get-go. He listened to my many pre-sale questions and accurately advised us on the best solution for our needs." We chose the CM LP based on its 10-year warranty and claims of easy installation & maintenance. It has been operational for three months now and has done everything that it promised. Weekly maintenance is less than 5 minutes and is as simple as wiping the toilet over and turning the mixer. Even though it came with two chambers it’s a comfort to know that we have the option to purchase more chambers if our usage increases dramatically in the future.
When the CM LP was delivered it was a huge relief to discover that the system and its fittings were of such good quality, even Dan the builder was impressed. Installation of the toilet was reasonably easy. We’re not builders so we employed Dan to help. There were a couple of hiccups like us not checking the width of the PVC pipe that we wanted to repurpose for the vent, turns out we had 90mm and needed 100mm. Honestly you couldn’t go wrong when you read and follow the instructions because it’s all in there. |
Building the outloo was more challenging because we were really committed to using mostly recycled materials. Recycled timber was scarce living in a fire impacted community. With a lot of patience we got there in the end. Other than the CM LP system the only new materials used were step frames, stirrups, some treated pine posts, cement, a small water tank and vent pipe. "Weekly maintenance is less than 5 minutes and is as simple as wiping the toilet over and turning the mixer." Our goal was to create an outloo that looked like it belonged, not new and out of place. We wanted it to have some rustic character, be comfortable and inviting. I think we achieved that and a lot more. I am so happy with how it’s all come together and have been pleasantly surprised by how satisfying the addition of a compost toilet to our property has become. Most importantly we’ve had such positive feedback from our visitors. Everybody loves it and they seem surprised that it doesn’t smell. It’s really become a bit of a novelty and adults seem to enjoy the experience of using it just as much as the kids. |
