Introducing the award winning Alectura from Nature Loo.
Designed in Australia for the tiny home and off-grid living communities. International Design Awards 2023 Gold - Eco Design-Offgrid Home Bronze - Eco Design-Sustainable & Green Other Products The Alectura is a split system based on the same brilliant design principles of the original Swedish Clivus Multrum, using air flow, oxygen and aerobic bacteria to turn waste into compost. Alectura boasts a larger volume, more efficient, sturdier build and better sealing than its predecessor, and optional extras for cold seasons! |
Although technically a batch system, the Alectura actually turns human waste into compost. It doesn't just collect it in a container.
Turning the mixing mechanism once or twice a week exposes more of the compost to oxygen, helping the aerobic bacteria to break the waste down more efficiently. The ventilation system ensures an oxygen supply to the aerobic bacteria, and also extracts all human odours from the room, so the toilet smells like ... air. The unique twin wall chamber incorporates drainage holes that perforate the internal chamber. This improves the drainage and air flow in the unit producing better compost and less smells. By the time you fill a chamber (6-8 weeks for two people full time), most of the waste has already turned to compost. You then swap chambers and finish the process by turning the crank handle once or twice a week. It all turns to compost in the chamber. |

We named the new Nature Loo after the Australian bush turkey; a fascinating bird renowned for its remarkable composting abilities. These industrious birds gather organic materials like leaves, twigs and other matter to construct large nesting mounds. The heat generated by these mounds provides the perfect environment for the turkey's eggs to incubate. As the organic materials decompose, they release essential nutrients into the soil, promoting its fertility and enabling the growth of lush vegetation. |
