The ultimate unit
Clivus Multrum (CM) are the original and best compost toilet on the market
beautifully simple, inherently reliable.
Simplicity is the secret
In crude terms, the CM is a big box full of wood shavings with a ventilation system – fool proof. The airflow supplies oxygen to natural aerobic bacteria which breaks the waste down to 5% of the original volume. This bacteria produces water vapour and carbon dioxide in a completely odourless process. The ventilation system takes any ‘gases’ out of the room, so the toilet smells like the garden outside.
Just throw some wood shavings down the chute now and then, check the pile, fan and drain. Done. Maintenance usually takes about 10 minutes a month.
The waste virtually disappears – seriously! In most cases it’ll be about 3 to 5 years (sometimes up to 10) before you'll need to remove any of the finished compost, even then it will probably only be a bucket or two of odourless pathogen free material each year.
There’s an excess fluid drain at the bottom of the ‘box’ to stop fluid build-up that could cause smells. You can expect nothing from this most of the time, but in winter you might get up to 1 litre a day of pathogen free liquid dribble out the drain - this just goes into a small trench near the unit or to your greywater system.
Once you have created the required underfloor clearance, two novices with some simple tools can install a CM unit in less than a day. VIROtech are more than happy to walk you through the process and we're always just a phone call away. The units come with everything you need for installation right down to stainless steel screws and a tube of Silastic.
Because the CM units don't need water or grid power, and only discharge a tiny amount of pathogen-free liquid, they can be installed at remote and sensitive sites close to water courses.
